“More Than a Coincidence” - A Second Large Study has Found Schwannomas in the Hearts of Male Rats Exposed to Cell Phone Radiation

“More Than a Coincidence”
Microwave News, 20 February 2018

New Large Animal Study, Like NTP’s, Links RF to Schwannoma of the Heart

It’s happened again.

A second large study has found tumors in the Schwann cells —schwannomas— in the hearts of male rats exposed to cell phone radiation.

The new finding comes from the Ramazzini Institute in Bologna, Italy.

The malignant schwannomas of the heart seen in the Italian study are the same as those described by the U.S. National Toxicology Program (NTP) earlier this month as the basis for their concern that cell phone radiation, both GSM and CDMA, can lead to cancer. Ramazzini embarked on its RF project in 2005, about the same time as the NTP effort was taking off.

Wales: We Need to Protect Wales from the Harmful Effects of Modern Wireless Technologies

We need to protect Wales from the harmful effects of modern wireless technologies
by Annelie Fitzgerald, Opinion, nation.cymru

The pioneering Well-Being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015 is an ambitious piece of legislation which aims to improve the quality of life for people in Wales.

The Act requires public bodies in Wales to carry out sustainable development in order to achieve the seven well-being goals it sets out.

The WFG Act seeks to prevent short-sighted policy-making, “where things done to meet short-term needs may have detrimental long-term effects.”

The environmental issue at the heart of the WFG Act is climate change. However, the terms of the legislation mean that public bodies in Wales must now take action on another environmental issue: anthropogenic radiofrequency radiation (RFR).

Man-made RFR is a growing yet invisible form of environmental pollution.

NTP Cell Phone Radiation Cancer Study: A Public Health Perspective

National Toxicology Program Finds Cell Phone Radiation Causes Cancer
saferemr.com, 20 February 2018

NTP Cell Phone Radiation Cancer Study: A Public Health Perspective

The $25 million National Toxicology Program (NTP) cell phone radiation study proves that long-term exposure to low intensity, non-thermal levels of cell phone microwave radiation can cause cancer and DNA damage in an animal model. This is the second study our federal government conducted which found that low intensity microwave radiation caused cancer.

The NTP study is the missing link.

In conjunction with recently published case-control research in humans that found an association between long-term, heavy cell phone use and brain tumor risk (glioma and acoustic neuroma also known as vestibular schwannoma), and hundreds of studies that found increased oxidative stress (including stress proteins, free radicals and DNA damage) from exposure to low intensity microwave radiation, the NTP study should empower the WHO International Agency for Research on Cancer to re-classify radio frequency radiation from its current classification, “possibly carcinogenic to humans” (Group 2B), to “probably carcinogenic to humans” (Group 2A) or “carcinogenic to humans” (Group 1).

Apple employees keep walking into glass walls

Bloomberg, 16 February 2018

The centerpiece of Apple Inc.’s new headquarters is a massive, ring-shaped office overflowing with panes of glass, a testament to the company’s famed design-obsessed aesthetic.

There’s been one hiccup since it opened last year: Apple employees keep smacking into the glass.

Surrounding the Cupertino, California-based building are 45-foot tall curved panels of safety glass. Inside are work spaces, dubbed “pods,” also made with a lot of glass. Apple staff are often glued to the iPhones they helped popularize. That’s resulted in repeated cases of distracted employees walking into the panes, according to people familiar with the incidents.

Radiations from Gadgets Smash Up the Sperm Count

Radiations from gadgets smash up the sperm count

With the technology growing in today’s world has caused much damage to human health than convenience. Making unlimited usage of smart phones, computers, laptops and wireless connections has not only made us dependant but has a variety of ill-effects on our health. It is now a known fact that today’s technology has affected male as well as female fertility immensely. Many studies state that levels of electromagnetic radiation which is emitted from the smart gadgets and cellular towers is ten times higher in India, in comparison to any other country. Around 10 – 12 % of the couples in India have been reported to suffer from some or the other forms of fertility issues due to radiation exposure.

SpaceX is preparing to hit another orbital milestone with the launch of a pair of experimental satellites on Sunday that are designed to beam an ultrafast, lag-free Internet connection down to Earth.

The test satellites, dubbed Microsat-2a and Microsat-2b, are a part of a years-long plan by chief executive Elon Musk to create a fleet of orbiting devices to blanket the globe in wireless broadband connectivity. SpaceX ultimately intends to put about 12,000 broadband satellites in low Earth orbit, and Sunday’s payload will mark the company’s first attempt at realizing the dream. The initial satellites in the network are expected to come online next year.

In My Chronic Illness, I Found a Deeper Meaning

I became disabled overnight in a car accident. The car accident was a dream, but the disability was real.

I dreamed I was driving through the ravaged streets of Oakland, Calif., at the end of the world. I turned the corner and careened inescapably into a white chemical blaze. I woke with a start, the white flash still burning behind my eyes, the worst headache of my life piercing my left temporal lobe. I remembered my mother having a brain aneurysm years before and knew the “worst headache of my life” was not to be ignored. My wife and I hurried to the hospital, expecting life to change forever. Once at the emergency room, things moved quickly: CT scans were ordered, crystal clear spinal fluid was drawn from my back. Eight hours later, I was told I was perfectly healthy.

Mobile providers are preparing to install antennas in church spires across the country, after ministers and bishops signed an agreement aimed at using the Church of England's buildings to help obliterate blackspots.

A new "accord" between the Government and the Church sets out a joint plan to improve "connectivity" in rural areas by making use of spires and towers, following the successful use of the structures to improve access to high-speed broadband in two dioceses.

The new agreement, signed by Matt Hancock, the Digital Secretary, and Dr David Walker, the Bishop of Manchester, following a summit in December, states that the Government and Church will work with both "mobile and broadband providers" to "help deliver improved connectivity".

Interview with Guillaume Pitron

In his latest work, « La Guerre des métaux rares » (The War of Rare Metals), Guillaume Pitron denounces the « hidden face of the energy and digital transition ». For the journalist, wind turbines, solar panels and electric vehicles are shifting pollution to the other side of the world.

Iridium, indium, platinum, rare earths: these metals with sometimes unknown names are essential for cutting-edge industries. Without them, no electric batteries for wind turbines, mobile phones or fiber optics. The journalist Guillaume Pitron is interested in the environmental and geopolitical consequences of extraction of these rare metals. On the occasion of the publication of his book “La Guerre des métaux rares” (The War of Rare Metals), he revisits six years of investigation in a dozen countries.

There’s emerging evidence that exposure to one type of radiation from cellphones and other devices might be linked to a major adverse health outcome in women: miscarriages.

A new study published in the journal Scientific Reports found a strong link between higher levels of exposure to a type of radiation called magnetic field non-ionizing radiation and higher risk of miscarriage in a group of nearly 1,000 women living in the Bay Area of California.

Specifically, the researchers, from Kaiser Permanente in Northern California, found that a woman’s miscarriage risk rose from 10 percent to 24 percent as she was exposed to higher levels of magnetic field non-ionizing radiation.

Largest Animal Study of Cell Phone Radiation and Cancer Risk
by Roxanne Nelson, RN, BSN, medscape.com, 6 February 2018

Data from the largest-ever animal study of cell phone radiation effects, released last week by the federal National Toxicology Program (NTP), found an association between cell phone radiation and an increased risk for cancer.

NTP senior scientist John Bucher, PhD, emphasized that the animals (rats and mice) in the study were exposed to a high dosage of cell phone radiation.

"The levels and duration of exposure to RFR [radiofrequency radiation] were much greater than what people experience with even the highest level of cell phone use, and exposed the rodents' whole bodies," Dr Bucher said in a statement. "So, these findings should not be directly extrapolated to human cell phone usage.

Facebook Funded Most of the Experts Who Vetted Messenger Kids
by Sha Tikuwired.com, 14 février 2018

IN DECEMBER, WHEN Facebook launched Messenger Kids, an app for pre-teens and children as young as 6, the company stressed that it had worked closely with leading experts in order to safeguard younger users. What Facebook didn’t say is that many of those experts had received funding from Facebook.

Equally notable are the experts Facebook did not consult. Although Facebook says it spent 18 monthsdeveloping the app, Common Sense Media and Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood, two large nonprofits in the field, say they weren’t informed about it until weeks or days before the app’s debut. “They had reached out to me personally Friday before it launched, when obviously it was a fait accompli,” says Josh Golin, executive director of Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood. Facebook, he says, is “trying to represent that they have so much more support for this than they actually do.” Academics Sherry Turkle and Jean Twenge, well-known researchers whose work on children and technology is often cited, didn’t know about the app until after it launched.

The PyeongChang Winter Olympics Are Testing 5G—to Ward Off Wild Boars
by BLOOMBERG, 13 February 2018

The first to experience the future of wireless technology, well before most humans, will be South Korea’s wild boars. That’s because 5G, the fifth-generation wireless network, is making its worldwide debut at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

The technology will be used to ward off the porcine pests who roam the mountainous region around the Games with fast-acting systems that shoot rays, spew gases and emit tiger roars.

That’s just the start of 5G — South Korea’s attempt to showcase the first-in-the-world commercial use of the technology that’s not scheduled to roll out globally until 2020. At the Games, shuttle buses run with no humans at the wheel, and 360-degree images in real time show competing figure skaters as they glide around the ice.

The wireless industry dreams of deploying its new 5G (fifth generation) infrastructure in your neighbourhood soon, as it has begun doing in California. Boxes the size of a PC could be placed every 150 meters or so on utility poles, sometimes with small-refrigerator-sized boxes on the ground. 5G technology uses pulsed, millimeter-sized microwaves that are easily blocked by obstacles such as leaves, hence the need to install millions of cell signal boosters near homes.

The telecoms say this is the most efficient way to ease the digital congestion caused by audio-video streaming, whose global traffic, according to American giant Cisco, will be eleven times higher in 2018 than in 2014. Data would move through fibre optic cables, but rather than bringing these cables to your home, the last leg of the data’s journey would generally be wireless… As markets work, personal mobile phone subscriptions are more profitable than the higher speed fibre optic connections linked to desktops through your own router.

Tobacco Firms in France Cheated Nicotine Tests - Anti-Smoking Body

Thank you to Herrmann of the Tribune de Genève

 Editor of "Towards Better Health".
We have just learned that four cigarette makers have been accused of cheating on the rates of tar and nicotine in their products by falsifying tests.  The results exceed the thresholds fixed by health authorities.  These mechanized tests do not reflect the normal consumption of smokers.

This news, as for Dieselgate, has been reported in the mainstream media, contrary to the Phonegate scandal.  A French physician, Dr. Marc Arazi, uncovered the misleading controls of manufacturers of mobile phones who are not testing actual use by consumers, that is, in contact with the body.  This endangers our health, exposing us to rates of radiation exceeding the regulatory standards (DAS).

Tech Companies Are Buying Their Own Education Research. That's a Problem
By Matt Miles, Commentary, edweek.org, 6 February 2018

A teacher's take on screentime addiction, 1:1 technology, and other ed-tech dilemmas

Last month, a pair of Apple shareholders demanded in an open letter that the company address growing concerns about children's addiction to their products. In light of research on the detrimental effects of electronic-media use, investment firm JANA Partners and the California State Teachers' Retirement System argued, parents need better resources to make sure children are using devices "in an optimal manner." While Apple defended its parental controls and protections for children, the letter was proof that more people are starting to realize what many in the scientific community have been saying for years: Overuse of screen-based technology is bad for children's health.

Modern technology is powerfully addictive, especially for the young, developing mind. With teenagers ages 13-18 averaging almost nine hours of entertainment media use a day—that doesn't include homework or other media use in school—it's no wonder many parents are starting to notice. (Even two of technology's most prominent creators, Bill Gates and the late Steve Jobs, famously admitted in interviews that they limited their own children's screen use.) Psychologists and neuroscientists have shown correlations (and in many cases, causation) between overusing technology and lower grades, trouble sleeping, inability to focus, poor self image, and depression and anxiety. Some research even shows a decrease in gray matter—the brain tissue responsible for sensory perception, memory, emotion, and self-control—in a technology addict's cerebral cortex.

Switzerland: Radiation Opponents Call for Antenna-Free Living Areas

population are electrosensitive.  But exposure
also has an impact on people who do not belong

Radiation opponents call for antenna-free living areas
by von R. Knecht,  20min.ch, 5 February 2018

A new petition calls for residential areas without mobile masts in Switzerland. The initiators are modeled on smoke-free zones.

"We want to pull the emergency brake in Bern," says Kathrin Luginbühl, one of the initiators of the petition, to 20 minutes. Soon the concessions will be awarded for 5G. A 5G antenna is also planned near Luginbühl's house in Hadlikon.

First low-radiation zone: Hadlikon

At present, Hadlikon is hardly exposed to radiation, as Luginbühl says. The IG therefore proposes the hamlet belonging to Hinwil as one of the first antenna-free zones in Switzerland. It also requires that further clearly defined locations be designated as "low-radiation zones" where mobile radio antennas may not be installed.

Electrosensitivity: Giant problem or illusion?

[In the original article, one may click here to express one's opinion on electrosensitivity.]

An important basis for the concerns of the IG is the report of the Federal Council on the protection against secondhand smoke from the year 2006. The antenna-free zones demanded by the IG are analogous to smoke-free zones. The measure applies to the protection of the population - the full name of the IG is also syndicate Hadlikon for the protection of the population.

Same RF Cancer Data, Different Outlook
Why was the NTP so ambivalent about its cell phone cancer findings at the press conference last Friday when two years ago the same scientific evidence prompted a public health warning?

Some of the pathology numbers got tweaked since they were first released in 2016, but the changes were minor. It’s the same data set —but with a very different interpretation. The NTP mindset somehow shifted from we need to release this important new health data nowto this is “not a high-risk situation.”

Who or what moved the NTP managers to change their outlook? There’s no shortage of suspects and suspicions. Here are a few making the rounds:

Federal Action Needed: Expert Reaction To NIH $25 Million Study Linking Cell Phone Radiation To Cancer

Statement By Devra Davis PhD, MPH, President And Founder Of Environmental Health Trust

The National Toxicology Program Findings of Tumors Confirm Adverse Biological Effects of Radiofrequency

The National Toxicology Program (NTP) found carcinogenic activity. These results from the largest study ever done in animals on cell phone radiation at levels that approximate those that humans experience are important and troubling. They show increases in the same types of cancers in animals parallel to tumors that we find in humans who have been regular cell phone users for a decade or more.

We test animals in order to predict effects on humans and to prevent adverse effects. That is how drugs are developed. Every compound known to cause cancer in humans also produces it in animals when adequately tested, according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization.

Cancer Researcher States That $25 Million NIH Study Confirms That Cell Phone Radiation Can Cause Cancer

Environmental Health Trust, 5 February 2018

Anthony Miller MD issues statement on the NIH/NIEHS National Toxicology Program (NTP) study linking cell phone radiation to tumors.

Anthony B. Miller MD, a longtime advisor to the World Health Organization and senior advisor to Environmental Health Trust (EHT) has issued a statement that the recently released findings from the $25 million NIH/NIEHS National Toxicology Program (NTP) cell phone radiofrequency radiation carcinogenicity studies combined with human epidemiology studies “conclusively confirms that radiofrequency radiation is a category 1 human carcinogen.” EHT is a scientific think tank focused on preventable environmental health risks and will be publishing a series of expert reactions to the NTP technical reports this week.

Statement of Anthony Miller MD

“In the NTP rat study there was a significant increase in incidence of schwannomas of the heart in the animals exposed to radiofrequency radiation, with a dose-response relationship in male rats, as well as the occurrence of gliomas of the brain, though this increase was not statistically significant. Further, a significant increase in DNA damage was observed in hippocampus cells of the brain of male rats exposed to radiofrequency radiation.

Stop 5G launch at Winter Olympics in South Korea. Acute public health reactions likely

Sudden, acute, and dramatic health reactions could occur at the South Korean Olympic and Paralympic games this month and next.

DISCLAIMER: This is not medical advice. If you need medical advice or attention, seek out a physician.

Korea Telecom together with Intel and Ericsson are rushing to launch one of the world’s first large-scale experiments with 5G – 5th generation wireless technology – at the Olympics. Special 5G-enabled tablets and mobile devices will be provided at the Olympics, using new beam-forming technologies, that focus radiation from cell tower to user’s device.[1[

Intel and Ericsson both know the public health hazards, and likely, so does Korea Telecom, but the public is being kept in the dark. Over 200 scientists and physicians called for a halt to 5G last year, but they have been ignored.[2]

Research funding and reviewing agencies should re-consider their stance on the importance of the research on EHS/IEI-EMF. Research should continue but the approach should change. The dominant study protocol till now, provocation studies, need to be replaced with studies examining molecular level physiology changes. Continuation of the research using provocation studies will not provide reliable scientific answers concerning EHS/IEI-EMF. Continuation of research using provocation studies approach is simply a waste of time and scarce resources.

Why the Largest Study Ever on Cellphones and Cancer Won’t Settle the Debate

Research found small increases in tumors and DNA damage in some rats; ‘No smoking gun’

U.S. researchers spent nearly two decades to design and carry out a definitive study on the health effects of cellphone radiation. The final results, released Friday, are likely to fuel rather than dispel the long-running debate about the planet’s most ubiquitous electronic device.

Among the observations: Male rats exposed to the radiation had small increases of tumors in their hearts and brains. Females didn’t. Exposed animals also showed signs of DNA damage, which experts thought wasn’t possible. But they also lived longer and had a significant reduction in a type of kidney disease.

Taken together, scientists at the National Toxicology Program, which carried out the study, said the research showed that cellphone energy did have biological effects but that it wasn’t clear what it meant for humans. The animals were exposed at levels greater than what people normally get from their devices.

“Typical cellphone use is not going to be directly related to the kind of exposures that we used in these studies,” said John Bucher, a senior scientist at the NTP.

Even so, experts have long believed cellphone radiation was too weak to cause effects like damage DNA, which carries genetic instructions for growth, development and reproduction. NTP scientists were quick to say they weren’t certain the damage was a result of the cellphone radiation exposure or some other factor.

Are Cell Phones Linked To Brain Cancer? National Toxicology Program Releases Results of Multi-Year Study: Environmental Health Trust Press Release

National Toxicology Program Releases Results Of Multi Year Study

Press Release, ehtrust.org, 2 February 2018

(Washington) The National Toxicology Program (NTP) division of the National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) is releasing the full results of its multi year study on mice and rats exposed to cell phone radiation today at noon EST.

The NTP will hold a media telebriefing to answer questions Friday, Feb. 2, 1:00 p.m. EST.

“The NTP tested the hypothesis that cell phone radiation could not cause health effects. This hypothesis has now been disproved because partial results the NTP released last year show cell phone radiation has adverse effects. These same cells that became cancerous in rats are the same cells that are reported to turn into tumors in people in epidemiology studies of cellphone users,” remarked Ronald L. Melnick, PhD, Advisor to Environmental Health Trust (EHT) and the senior NIEHS toxicologist who designed the National Toxicology Program (NTP) study. Melnick pointed out that “in addition, the NTP reported DNA damage in some of the exposed animal groups. For children cancer risks may be greater than that for adults because of greater penetration and absorption of cellphone radiation in the brains of children and because the developing nervous system of children is more susceptible to tissue- damaging agents.”

The study of the scientists from the National Toxicology Program (NTP), the agency attached to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS/NIH), marks a new turning point in the understanding of the risks to human and animal health related to the strength of mobile phone radiation.

Lasting ten years with a budget of 25 million dollars, serious findings of the two reports (on rats and mice) released on February 2, 2018 should put an end to the strategy of the denial of risk and doubt orchestrated by the manufacturers in the sector to promote their economic development. It is a safe bet that they will embark on a new campaign of disparagement at the NTP meeting on March 28 to render their conclusions after the scientific community has been able to present all their observations and comments.

The findings of this study confirm an increase in malignant and benign tumors of the brain (gliomas) in rats more than in mice and also tumors of the heart (schwannomas) as well as many and varied more or less serious pathologies affecting the heart (cardiomyopathy), thyroid and prostate (hyperplasia).

Federal Research Raises Flags about Cancer Risk from Cellphone Radiation: News Release from Environmental Working Group on NTP Study

Federal Research Raises Flags about Cancer Risk from Cellphone Radiation
News Release, Environmental Working Group, 2 February 2018

WASHINGTON – Data from the largest-ever animal study of cellphone radiation effects, released today by the federal National Toxicology Program, confirms earlier evidence from human studies that cellphone radiation increases the risk of cancer.

The research found that male rats exposed to radio-frequency radiation had a greater chance of developing malignant brain cancer, tumors in the heart and tumors in other organs. Various tumors were also observed in mice exposed to radio-frequency radiation. The amount of radiation to which the laboratory animals were exposed included the levels emitted by cellphones millions of people use everyday.

“This is the most authoritative study published that connects cancer with cellphone radiation – it should raise alarms for policymakers and awareness for all Americans,” said Olga Naidenko, Ph.D., senior science advisor at EWG. “These studies should have been done before more than 90 percent of Americans, including children, started using this technology day in and day out.”

High Exposure to Radiofrequency Radiation Linked to Tumor Activity in Male Rats: NIEHS News Release on NTP Study

High Exposure to Radiofrequency Radiation Linked to Tumor Activity in Male Rats
News Release, NIEHS (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences), 2 February 2018

High exposure to radiofrequency radiation (RFR) in rodents resulted in tumors in tissues surrounding nerves in the hearts of male rats, but not female rats or any mice, according to draft studies from the National Toxicology Program (NTP). The exposure levels used in the studies were equal to and higher than the highest level permitted for local tissue exposure in cell phone emissions today. Cell phones typically emit lower levels of RFR than the maximum level allowed. NTP’s draft conclusions were released today as two technical reports, one for rat studies and one for mouse studies. NTP will hold an external expert review of its complete findings from these rodent studies March 26-28.

The incidence of tumors, called malignant schwannomas, that were observed in the heart increased in male rats as they were exposed to increasing levels of RFR beyond the allowable cell phone emissions. Researchers also noted increases in an unusual pattern of cardiomyopathy, or damage to heart tissue, in exposed male and female rats. Overall, there was little indication of health problems in mice related to RFR.

U.S. Probes Apple Over Updates That Slow Older iPhones
by Tom Schoenberg, Matt Robinson, and Mark Gurman, Bloomberg, 30 January 2018, updated 31 January 2018

  • DOJ, SEC investigate company disclosures on software update
  • Apple released software update last year as battery issue fix

Apple Inc. said it’s responding to government probes into a software update that slowed the performance of older iPhones.

The U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission are investigating whether Apple violated securities laws concerning its disclosures about a software update that slowed some handsets, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg News on Tuesday. The U.S. government has requested information from the company, according to the people, who asked not to be named because the probe is private.

The inquiry is in early stages, they cautioned, and it’s too soon to conclude any enforcement will follow. Investigators are looking into public statements made by Apple on the situation, they added. While the slowdown has frustrated consumers, investigators are concerned the company may have misled investors about the performance of older phones.

"Phonegate": Finnish Deputy at European Parliament Raises Issue of Impact of Mobile Phone Radiation on Health of European Citizens

Parliamentary questions
10 January 2018

Question for written answer
to the Commission
Rule 130
Merja Kyllönen (GUE/NGL)

Subject: Impact of mobile phone radiation on the health of European citizens

The results of the 2015 measurement tests of 95 mobile phones in body contact positions by the French National Frequencies Agency (ANFR) showed that nine out of 10 tested mobile phones in contact with the skin exceeded the regulatory SAR threshold of 2 W/kg, set by the ICNIRP and used by the EU.

Most members of the public are not aware that mobile phones emit radiation waves even when in pockets, so direct skin contact is not even needed, and, moreover, the information on the allegedly safe distance between the phone and the body is currently in phone manuals, about which serious doubts have been expressed as to this not being the most effective place in terms of a source of information.
